Working with Mitchel Marshall and his firm, MMA Architects, on the design and construction of our new Foxhound Bee Company building in Irondale was a true collaboration between myself, MMA, and our general contractor, MAXUS. From the very beginning, Mitchel was engaged and expressed a real desire to make this project happen. Mitchel was fast-thinking and proactive in finding solutions that kept the project moving smoothly from concept to completion. Even when it bogged down from the different parties, Mitchel pushed forward to keep the project moving.
This was a new construction build that required both creativity and practicality. Mitchel worked hard to design a building that reflected our brand's personality while keeping efficiency at the forefront so the GC could manufacture and assemble it with ease. He transformed what began as a standard square metal building into one full of character, featuring a front and side bump-out that incorporates reclaimed brick, adds visual depth, maximizes space, and highlights a large mural that has become a centerpiece of our new facility.
Mitchel's attention to detail and communication throughout the process were outstanding. He was always available for a call or meeting and maintained open communication between all parties to keep the project coordinated and on schedule. The building was completed on time and within budget, which is rare in construction, and that success was due in large part to Mitchel's early efforts to produce complete, build-ready plans for MAXUS.
He also worked directly with the City of Irondale and the Fire Marshal to address challenges, including a fire hydrant requirement within 500 feet of the building. Through his persistence and problem-solving, he identified a solution that satisfied safety regulations while saving us tens of thousands of dollars in unnecessary site work.
Throughout the project, Mitchel demonstrated not only design expertise but a strong sense of ownership and advocacy for our goals. He consistently saw the big picture, balancing aesthetics, cost, and practicality, and went above and beyond to help turn our vision for Foxhound Bee Company into reality.
I would gladly work with Mitchel and the MMA team again and highly recommend him for any significant or complex architectural project. He's a professional who brings creativity, collaboration, and integrity to everything he does.
